Our Story

We started with a belief: that every young woman has a story worth telling — and that the act of telling it changes everything.

How HERStory Began

HERStory: My Sisters Keeper was founded in 2010 by Jessica Disu - known as FM Supreme – a Chicago based artist, peace activist and community leader working at the intersection of creative practice and social change. My Sister’s Keeper program was born in a circle — a room full of young women of color who picked up a pen, wrote their most vulnerable sentence they’d ever written, and read out loud while their sisters respond “We see you.” That circle was created by Jessica Disu. HERStory was created because she knew what it felt like to need it.

What started in Chicago has grown beyond any one room, any one city. This story belongs to every young woman who has ever felt unheard, unseen, or defined by her past — as if her future had already been written for her.

It has not! You can change the narrative starting today. When you wear HERStory, you carry that circle with you. Every hoodie, every tee, every journal is more than an item — it’s a declaration: that you know who you are, you own your story, and you are part of a community that sees you for who you are and who you will become.

Our Mission

HERStory: My Sisters Keeper is on a mission to improve the life and educational outcomes for young women and girls ages 16–24. We build community and equip participants with tools and courage to grow, serve, and lead.

Our Vision

A world where zip codes don’t write destinies — and every young woman and girl has the freedom and courage to choose her own future and career path.

Our Core Values

Identity

We believe every young woman has the right to know who she is, tell her own story, and own the fullness of who she was created to be — without apology and without shrinking.

Equity

We believe every young woman deserves access to the resources, support, and opportunity that allow her to thrive — regardless of her zip code, her background, or her circumstances.

Service

We believe that giving back is not just an action — it is an identity. HERStory cultivates young women who show up for their communities, carry their sisters, and lead with love.

Purpose

We believe every young woman was created with intention and called to something greater than survival. HERStory helps her discover that purpose — and gives her the tools and courage to pursue it.

Meet the Team

Behind every circle, every cohort, and every moment of transformation is a team committed to helping young women grow, heal, and lead. HERStory is guided by leaders, mentors, facilitators, and community partners who believe in the power of storytelling, sisterhood, and purpose-driven support. Together, we create spaces where every participant is seen, heard, and equipped to thrive.
